Marketing? I am attending University in the Fall but im confused. I have been accepted into Commerce at my university and i was planning on majoring in Marketing. However i am not sure if I am picturing what Marketing really is. I want to be the one who will come up with the ad. I don't want to make it just create the idea for it. Is that what Marketing would en tale or should i just go into Arts and Sciences? Thanks
How do I find marketing people in USA, who will work on commissions-only basis to market for IT consulting? We are a 2 person start-up company. We have purchased a company with 10 years history, very good credit rating, and at zero employees, in NorthEast USA. Since we are tight on budget and are working as full time consultants ourselves, we are unable to market and expand the company. We were wondering if there are any websites/resources (besides posting an Ad on a jobs website) which we can explore to communicate to potential IT services marketing personnel in the NorthEast USA, to see if we can work on a commission-only basis initially. Once we start serving 2-3 clients and place a few consultants, we can afford to switch to a salary + commission option. This can be a great option for a marketing person who has contacts in the market but would like to work from home or work flex-time. Thank You!

What is the difference between a marketing campaign and a promotion? My belief is that promotion is more broad than a marketing campaign (think the four p's). A marketing campaign is found within promotion. I was also assuming a campaign is a strategy of speaking to a particular segment within your target. Is this the case? What if, for example, you have marketing activities you are doing specifically for Christmas. Could this be the Christmas promotion within a wider campaign?

Who has experience with network marketing and taxes? I received a 1099 from my network marketing company for commissions and overrides. I also received a statement from them called Taxable Income REcap that shows how much I spent on Purchasing Products. You buy products at wholesale and sell them at retail. The difference is your income or "right now" money. This money is not easily tracked because they can't tell how much you sold at full cost, how much you sold at discounts and how much you kept for personal use or as gifts to further your business. Do I need to somehow claim this on my taxes as income or should I just claim what was noted on my 1099? There is also a box on my 1099-MISC form that is checked that says "Payer made direct sales of $5000 or more of consumer products to a buyer (recipient) for resale." Does this relate to me or is this the company just saying that I bought more than $5000 worth of stuff to sell as I see fit? Anyone have any experience with this on their federal taxes?

Marketing...? I'm in high school (oh no!) and I've been thinking a lot about what I want to major in in college. I'm artistic, creative, and humourous, and thrive completely off being free-spirited. So, I've always been *extremely* wary of going after a career in anything related to business, or math. I destest math. I get (low) A's in high-level classes, but it stabs at me violently inside. I would totally go into some dead-end art career, but I want high pay. I know all about that "do-what-you-want" speech, but...let's just say I've grown up feeling the pain of minimum wage, and I really want to rid myself of it once and for all. Recently, just by chance, I came across an article about marketing. I cannot believe my eyes, because it is said that marketing...so math-related- and bland-sounding to me...is creative? Artistic, even? I would really enjoy some real-time feedback on this. What's a career in marketing like...is it really creative? Is there a ton of math? College... and would I live?

Shaklee and MLM MARKETING? How does MLM marketing work? I was thinking about becoming a shaklee distributor, but I couldn't find a sponsor who would answer all my questions & I can't get a full grasp of how MLM marketing works. I don't want to bother my friends and family. I want to know how to market to the "cold market" = everyone else. Besides marketing on websites mlm is hard for me to understand because 1 i have no loyalty to a certain brand 2. I never bought something from a catalog and 3. i never met someone that said, hey I found this new product try it here is my business card. So how does it work besides advertising in the news paper or on bulletin boards and random strangers? The only way i can think of it working is if you can get small business owners to market the products in there store. But the products are already expensive. If i was a retailer i would not market a product with only a 15% mark down. So how does this work? Who do you market too, How long does it take to build a downline? Yea you didn't answer any of my questins Cindy, So basically you don't market to retailers or businesses, you just sell by chatting to people online and offline building business. How do you chat to people for your global business when you don't speak the language?
Sports Marketing Plan? I'm enrolled in a Sports Marketing class as an elective. The final project is pretending we're the vice president the marketing department of a professional sports team, and create a marketing plan. He says add 'promotion, publicity, ads' on it, but I really don't know why these things would go on a marketing plan. Actually, I have no idea what goes on a marketing plan. Can anyone tell me or can anyone get a sample marketing plan that I can look at?

Marketing professionals, Help! Do you go through this to? I work in the marketing dept. at a small company that has no idea what marketing is or does. A few years back they did a rebranding from the biggest marketing firm in this area and re-vamped everything. They still have no clue what the importance of marketing is, even 1 million dollars later. They have been in business 20 years, but have stayed at the same 10million dollar revenue level, which is currently declining because in recent years they have lost their niche due to new competition. My question is, is there anyone else out there in the marketing department that is forced to make copies, printings, do dataentry, print business cards, order shirts and other things for people in the company, cleaning the database, sending emails and letters for the sales department, signing the salespeople up for tradeshows, entering contacts in the database for sales and setting them appointments and 'to do's? among other things. Once ina great while we do have a press release or a list to research, but most of the time I feel like an administrative assistant, and so does my co-worker. (there are 2 of us in the department). We are never involved in any decision about products or promotion or advertising. And here the sales department is held on a pedestal and the whole company is on edge because sales have been down recently. If only they knew what we are capable of. My co-worker and supervisor has over 20 years expereince and had to take this job because she is here taking care of her aging father, I am here because its a recession, but looking elswhere. I have 5 years experience. Any thought, insight or advice is greatly appreciated! We have talked to our manager but to no avail, and have talked to other people, but it falls on deaf ears and no one seems to care. I think a big aspect is we are woman and are talked down to, but also no one has any idea how the dept. is suppose to work!!

In mature markets do liquor brewers employ marketing firms to secure the markets or they do it themselves? In markets that are developed or at times developing, top beer or spirit brewers may not want to carry out the marketing activity themselves but contract a marketing company that looks for markets and seek to increase markets for a specified commision level plus a retainer. In which markets is this prevalent and what methods are used.I know beaty products houses like Givenchy have enlisted what could be called franchises to market and sell their products, this might work almost in the same manner. There is another way that the brewers of Sting ,Sminorf Spin ,Hooshi and all other siders do it.They enlist the services of a number of influential students on campus ,say Wits or UCT in South Africa. These students are given a certain allocation of drinkage a week or special allocation for on campus parties.By the way what is this marketing method called?

Location: Las Vegas Team Name: the Las Vegas Roulettes Arena Name: the Mirage Arena (sponsored by Mirage Hotels) Mascot: "Black Jack" (hes a badass cowboy that wears all black) Team Logo: http://www.wildnatureimages.com/images%202/031021-016..jpg it will be photoshopped to have "roulettes" written on it. Alright this is where I need LITYs help, or anyone that knows a lot about marketing involved in the NHL. I need to know the target market's: - age - income - occupation - education - ethnic background - gender - lifestyles - attitudes - values If anyone has any ideas for promotions or premiums let me have them as well. LITY is a genius. Zap - I haven't decided if I should focus on the locals or if I should focus on the visitors. I would probably go with the visitors only because a lot people go to Vegas for entertainment only, and while they are there, they are more likely to spend their money than locals who live there. William - I was gonna name it the Las Vegas Hookers, but its taken by an adult league.
