Should I develop my idea as a non-profit or as a small business? I originally had this idea for a Non-Profit organization that dealt specifically with education. I won't give out the details of it, but it was something that would be provided for, obviously, of no charge and something I've felt is greatly needed in my area. Upon studying non-profits, however, I learned that a Board must be developed. I'm afraid that if my idea is left up to a vote amongst others, there won't be a chance that my vision would come to light amidst differing opinions within the board. At the same time I want to start up a company that doesn't have a profit goal but is solely for the benefit of the community. The reason why this matters is because I want to make the organization eligible for as many grants as possible (due to the high cost that would be initially involved) So, to sum up, should I go non-profit or is there something else? What are my other options? Are there online resources for beginning entrepreneurs? And if at all possible, where can I get grants? I'm not "hiding" and never stated I was, I won't give details for two reasons; The details are not relevant to the context of the question being asked and; 2, there is not enough space for me to present all the ideas that would be worked on within the orgnization. At least not without making this question enormously large. If you're wanting to read a mission statement then feel free to e-mail me in regards to that. It would be possible to make a profit off the idea. Update - I was finally able to get hold of a lawyer and she recommended that for what I'm wanting to do I should either develop as an unincorporated non-profite (where I can remain in sole control and still qualify as non-profit, but with limitations) or go as small-business. I've decided to develop as a small business. I appreciate the help and answers.

Living and doing business in South america? I am a small entrepreneur and am considering moving to either Chile or Uruguay. Which one has a better business climate for someone like myself? Which is generally more business-friendly and stable? Does one have a significantly higher living standard than the other? Is one of them a lot easier to immigrate to? Just answer as many as you can, you don't have to be able to answer all. Thanks. Please don't name any other countries. These are the ones I'm interested in. Thanks
Suggestions on specialized training for a part-time job? I'm finally going to be attending a four year university this fall or in the spring of 2008. I'm looking for a part-time job that pays fairly well. These past few years I've been working full time at low-paying retail or restaurants because I don't really have many marketable skills. I have a bit of money saved up and I'm looking for something specialized that I can take a class or series of classes in so that I can get a decent part-time or start free-lancing. That way when school starts I will still have a decent amount of money coming in for personal expenses. I've thought about website design. And at my community college, I will be able to get a certificate in a few months. The classes would cover the basics I need to get started and I already know how to design graphics. I did this I would try to cater to small business, entrepreneurs, small groups and clubs, etc. I'm not sure how this would work out, so I'm open for suggestions. I've been out of school for the past two years working and payiing off debts. I've also saved up a bit so that I can pay out-of pocket for what ever my grants and scholarships couldn't cover. So, room and board, tuition, books, are hopefully covered and I do not have to worry about those. What I'm really worried about is emergency cash, the little bit of debt that I wasn't able to completely pay off and the small ongoing bills that I need to keep. I'm 24 and I'm chooseing to go back to school now, because I'm scared if I wait I'd never go back and I'll be stuck working dead-end jobs forever. Thanks for reading and for the feedback/

Teen Small Business? This summer, I'd like to earn a little extra cash, and I was thinking of starting a small business making and decorating cakes and goodies for all occasions. I'm not aiming super high, probably just on referrals and not all across town. My parents are all for it, and they might back me up with some start up money. But I'm only 13, so does anyone have any tips for a budding entrepreneur? Thanks! =)
How do I start a defensive driving school and what do I need to know about starting a business? I've had an entrepreneur spirit for a while and I think I know what I want to do now. I want to start a defensive driving school on Saturdays. After that is established, I would start a behind-the-wheel class. I already know how to market the business. I think I need to start by going to the DMV and getting information and getting certified. What else do I need to know about this business and about running a small business?
