Suggestions on specialized training for a part-time job?

I'm finally going to be attending a four year university this fall or in the spring of 2008. I'm looking for a part-time job that pays fairly well. These past few years I've been working full time at low-paying retail or restaurants because I don't really have many marketable skills. I have a bit of money saved up and I'm looking for something specialized that I can take a class or series of classes in so that I can get a decent part-time or start free-lancing. That way when school starts I will still have a decent amount of money coming in for personal expenses. I've thought about website design. And at my community college, I will be able to get a certificate in a few months. The classes would cover the basics I need to get started and I already know how to design graphics. I did this I would try to cater to small business, entrepreneurs, small groups and clubs, etc. I'm not sure how this would work out, so I'm open for suggestions. I've been out of school for the past two years working and payiing off debts. I've also saved up a bit so that I can pay out-of pocket for what ever my grants and scholarships couldn't cover. So, room and board, tuition, books, are hopefully covered and I do not have to worry about those. What I'm really worried about is emergency cash, the little bit of debt that I wasn't able to completely pay off and the small ongoing bills that I need to keep. I'm 24 and I'm chooseing to go back to school now, because I'm scared if I wait I'd never go back and I'll be stuck working dead-end jobs forever. Thanks for reading and for the feedback/

  1. Web techs are a dime a dozen. There's younger ppl out there who have a 2 yr. degree in it and are unemployed. Do you have any idea what electricians and plumbers make an hour?? LOTS! But that would take much time to learn and you want to be done by summer. So...my brother worked for a landscaper one summer and construction the next. Both afforded him more cash than food & retail, in addition to build up some muscles!

  3. I really love what I do and since we work from home and set our own hours, we have many university students that choose this. It is mostly computer work. The company is really great and offers a 401k and benefits plan as well as full training and support. You can work full or part time and you can make a great living doing it. Feel free to contact me if you want more information.
